Birmingham Friends of the Earth have been practicing what they preach by cutting the fuel used to heat their 19th century former warehouse building in Digbeth.
The public are invited along on the 30th and 31st March to see how this is being achieved, using thick insulation on the walls, part of a demonstration paid for by the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s LEAF fund. There is also a wood chip boiler and solar panels for hot water. Tours will be led by the building manager Phil Burrows at 11am, 1pm or 3pm. There will be free home energy advice and free vegetarian food.
“Complaining about fuel prices won’t work” says Phil “ We must take action to stop our buildings leaking so much heat and switch to abundant renewable energy”.
There is no registration for this event. Just turn up at one of the aforementioned times.
