As you may know, our local elections will be on May 7th this year. This is a chance for us to work with the city council in a meaningful way. We want to talk with you and candidates across Birmingham to help them understand the everyday issues we face. The next few months will be about encouraging the council to listen to our stories.
Everyone has a story to tell, and stories are powerful. They tell people who we are and how we feel. Storytelling has always been important for humans. When humans lived in caves, we painted stories on the walls. When people move to different countries, they take their stories with them. Even our religious writings and spiritual leaders tell us important stories about how we should live. But now, the stories of ordinary people are not being listened to.
So, we need you to tell your story. We want to help our council understand the issues we are facing. We’ll show them where they may have failed, but also how they can support us in the future. Over the coming months, we’d like you to tell us what Birmingham City Council needs to do next.
You can get involved through our events or activities, which you can find on our socials. In the meantime, we’d love to know your feelings on a few issues we can see in the city. You can do this by filling out this short questionnaire. We look forward to hearing what you have to say, and hope to someday live in a more representative Birmingham.
