Between the 10th and 21st November, the world’s decision makers, experts, community leaders (and I’m sure a few fossil fuel representatives!) will be coming together in Brazil for the 30th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP). This year marks 10 years since the landmark Paris Agreement.
Here is a handy guide that explains what COP30 is and why it matters.
Our key demands are:
- Show maximum ambition and drive for ending global deforestation.
- Justice for communities on the frontlines of climate breakdown
- Make polluters pay.
Global Day of Action – 15 November
The Global Day of Action is an important moment for climate justice activist from across the world to come together to make our collective voices heard.
This year’s talks are taking place in Brazil, home of the Amazon rainforest, so we are joining Friends of the Earth’s groups from across the country to demand the UK government shows maximum ambition in ending global deforestation, including deforestation driven by UK companies (join our banner painting workshop to find out more about our Planet Over Profit campaign).
We are pleased to be working with Friction Arts, members of the Brum Climate Justice Coalition, Woodcraft Folk and many other groups and activists to host a Cardboard Carnival event on Saturday 15 November, 10am-5pm at The Edge (79-81 Cheapside, B12 0QH). There will be crafts, music, food and a carnival march.
Here is an outline plan of the day:
