I’m very passionate about environmental conservation and love being out doors so on Friday 8th April I travelled to Woodgate Valley Country Park to help TCV with some much needed conservation work. There was plenty that needed doing on their food growing site.

The first task of the day was to prune back some branches which were overhanging the raised vegetable patch to allow the much needed sunlight to help the veggies grow. I can’t wait till we can harvest them!

Next on my list of jobs was to cultivate the soil. This involved me breaking up some of the soil which Tim a TCV worker had dug up. Afterwards I could definitely feel the muscles I had long forgoten I had!

After a tea break and a chat to the other volunteers I then went on to help with the raking up of the vines to put on the compost heap. I ended the morning with digging up some primroses which were to be replanted close by.

I really enjoyed spending the time working outside and working with a great team of people. I can’t wait for the next volunteer day!
