“Birmingham Friends of the Earth is an environmental campaigning organisation that places equality and justice at the core of what we do. We campaign to create a fairer and more sustainable Birmingham, We know that structural and systemic racism is deeply rooted in our society. Racism affects deprived communities in many ways. For example, ethnic minorities are most likely to be exposed to dangerous levels of air pollution in Birmingham. We actively campaign on issues of Climate Justice that recognise that globally, those that are poorest are most affected by Climate Breakdown.

Issues of social justice and environmental justice are interlinked. We cannot achieve a more sustainable Birmingham without resolving issues of injustice and inequality. We support the right to protest peacefully.

Birmingham Friends of the Earth stands in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. The deaths of Black and Ethnic Minority people by police brutality are the worst form of this systemic racism. We stand with the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and many others in the US. We also stand with the families of Darren Cumberbatch, Dalian Atkinson and many others. Police brutality is not just a US issue. Systemic racism are the lived experiences of Black and Ethnic Minority Communities in Birmingham. We will continue to campaign to end this racism and we offer our support to our communities in whatever way we can. We support the right to peacefully protest

Black Lives Matter”
