You are invited to a discussion meeting to formulate BFOE’s response to the council’s new Waste Strategy on Monday 23rd October at 7.30 at the warehouse. Hoping you can join us, or send some thoughts.
The council Cabinet on 3rd Oct did not sign off the officers’ draft strategy, but the new Leader was perhaps spurred by our protest and a need for all- party support, so he decided that a final version will come to the full Council, therefore the strategy is still open to change. The bins strike is only suspended, so there is real pressure from the public and media.
Good news at the cabinet meeting was that there will be no single contract for waste and the different contracts will last only up to 7 years to allow for future flexibility. Less good is the lack of short term targets for recycling, no food waste collection and no change to the collection system being envisaged.
