Tell Solihull MBC NO to more flights!

Birmingham Airport has submitted a planning application (PL/2024/01917/M106) which seeks to make changes to the Night Time Flying policy.

We object to the planning application PL/2024/01917/M106. The Section 106 agreement between Birmingham Airport and Solihull MBC was agreed in 2009 when the airport extended its runway and the agreement seeks to protect local residents from some of the worst aspects of aviation especially, in this case, at night time.

If this planning application is agreed this will allow the number of night flights to increase from 5% of total movements at the airport to 7.3% of total flights. This will not only increase the noise associated with airport operations BUT will increase the pollution from the airport’s activities both on the ground and in the air. It could have a significant impact on local residents ability to sleep – there is increasing evidence that sleep deprivation can negatively impact health.

We are calling on Solihull Council to refuse this application to amend the Section 106 agreement.

You can see more information on the Solihull MBC website from where you can also make a formal objection.
