Candidate Name & Party: Roger Harmer, Liberal Democrats

Question Yes/No Additional Comments
Do you support an ambitious recycling plan for council collected waste that will allow the incinerator to close by 2034?  Yes I proposed a motion to Full Council arguing exactly this arguing exactly for this earlier this year. I have consistently argued for such an approach, for example proposing a motion to Full Council arguing for Food Waste Collections several years ago and believe the Council should start food waste collections as soon as possible rather than wait for the Government to make it mandatory.
Do you support making sure climate change is at the heart of council decisions and spending, prioritising the implementation of the Route to Zero plan?  Yes I was one of the four cross party proposers for the motion declaring a Climate Emergency in 2019. I have consistently argued for faster progress on the agenda and regularly speak out at Full Council about this.
Would you be willing to take a carbon literacy course to supplement your understanding of urgent measures the council could take to reduce CO2 emissions? Yes Always happy to learn more!
Do you support the implementation of the Birmingham Transport Plan that prioritises reliable and well coordinated public transport and increased facilities for active travel? Yes It needs to be delivered with comprehensive public consultation to ensure local implementation is effective.
Will you support the council to be more ambitious in improving energy efficiency in council buildings and houses by having larger scale projects instead of smaller trials? Yes This is exactly what I have been arguing for in several speeches at Full Council.
Do you commit to engagement with your constituents by holding regular and frequent public ward meetings? Yes I already do.
