Do you support an ambitious recycling plan for council collected waste that will allow the incinerator to close by 2034? | Yes | Incinerating waste is the absolute worst option: at the very least we should recycle as much as possible, even if as a local council we cannot reduce how much we use, and re-use as much as possible. |
Do you support making sure climate change is at the heart of council decisions and spending, prioritising the implementation of the Route to Zero plan? | Yes | Climate Chance is the single most important issue facing humanity and the environment at the moment: we need to do all we can to get to Net Zero as much as soon as possible. |
Would you be willing to take a carbon literacy course to supplement your understanding of urgent measures the council could take to reduce CO2 emissions? | Yes | Any learning or training on this issue is welcome: none of us have all the answers. |
Do you support the implementation of the Birmingham Transport Plan that prioritises reliable and well coordinated public transport and increased facilities for active travel? | Yes | A bus is 16 times as efficient in terms of space on the road as private cars. Active travel combines cleaner air and less fossil fuel with actually getting fitter: we need to implement the Transport Plan as a matter of urgency. |
Will you support the council to be more ambitious in improving energy efficiency in council buildings and houses by having larger scale projects instead of smaller trials? | Yes | Insulation is the unsung hero of reducing home energy usage: it has the benefits of needing skilled jobs to install as well as reducing fuel bills for those in fuel poverty. |
Do you commit to engagement with your constituents by holding regular and frequent public ward meetings? | Yes | Local councillors are elected to represent the interests of their constituents: nothing is more important than regular meetings with them. |
