Candidate Name: Ed Freshwater – Green Party |
Question | Yes/No | Additional Comments |
Do you support an ambitious recycling plan for council collected waste that will allow the incinerator to close by 2034? | Yes | The incinerator is the worst possible solution to waste; we need to focus on using fewer single-use items and really step up on food waste recycling. Communities need to have ownership and influence of new schemes as well, not just get occasional leaflets. |
Do you support making sure climate change is at the heart of council decisions and spending, prioritising the implementation of the Route to Zero plan? | Yes | Every project, initiative, plan and proposal should have an impact assessment with strict targets before approval. |
Would you be willing to take a carbon literacy course to supplement your understanding of urgent measures the council could take to reduce CO2 emissions? | Yes | There’s no end to learning! |
Do you support the implementation of the Birmingham Transport Plan that prioritises reliable and well coordinated public transport and increased facilities for active travel? | Yes | I say yes, but I don’t think it has anything like the detail required to match the ambition. We need to do more, more urgently. |
Will you support the council to be more ambitious in improving energy efficiency in council buildings and houses by having larger scale projects instead of smaller trials? | Yes | |
Do you commit to engagement with your constituents by holding regular and frequent public ward meetings? | Yes | Yes; these will be at minimum monthly online and another in-person where restrictions permit. Direct contact via email, DMs, WhatsApp will all be available. And I’m always up for a walk and talk through the neighbourhood. |
