Transport For West Midlands want to widen the Moseley Road through Balsall Heath, this is supposed to enhance running conditions for the bus. They also want to put a bus lane on the central reservation of the ring road. Our video shows the Number 50 bus waiting for the “bus gate” to enable it to cross the middle ring road. Surely a much cheaper and cost effective solution to enhance the movement of the Number 50 would be for the bus gate not to delay the passage of the bus. The traffic lights could be instructed to give a green light for the bus as it approaches the bus gate rather than waiting at the gate to get a green light. Watch this video to see how long the bus is delayed at the bus gate.
Hold up at the bus gate!

Yes. Every 50 bus is held up at this set of light, whereas the savings promised by the TfWM scheme would only save time when the middleway is so congested that the bus is waiting in a queue to get the few yards to Moseley Road.
