Do you support making sure climate change is at the heart of council decisions and spending, prioritising the implementation of the Route to Zero plan? | Yes | Environmental impact should always be considered in Council decisions, with plans to tackle the climate crisis a key component of the Council’s agenda over the next 4 years. I’m pleased that Birmingham Labour have a vision for us to be a carbon neutral city by 2030 |
Would you be willing to take a carbon literacy course to supplement your understanding of urgent measures the council could take to reduce CO2 emissions? | Yes | I’ve worked on a number of different environmental campaigns over the last 5 years, and I am always more than happy to learn more from experts in the field. Will you support the council to be more ambitious in improving energy efficiency in council buildings and houses by having larger scale projects instead of smaller trials? | Yes | As the largest Council in Europe, we should be leading the way in improving energy efficiency in Council buildings. Importantly, we should be prioritising properly insulating and retrofitting Council properties – not only to tackle the climate crisis, but to keep residents’ energy bills down during the Conservative cost of living crisis. I’m proud of the work that the Labour Council has done on this so far, and delighted that we are aiming to upgrade our 60,000 social homes to make them warmer, greener, and cheaper to heat, meeting our Route to Zero plan. |
Do you commit to engagement with your constituents by holding regular and frequent public ward meetings? | Yes | My favourite part of being a Councillor is being out and speaking to people about important issues – whether that’s on the doorstep or in public meetings. Public engagement will always be a core part of my work as an elected representative. |
