Birmingham Friends of the Earth's work with faith communities on climate change has received an Environment Agency communications award for best Community/Customer engagement project.
Maud Grainger, Multifaith Project Co-ordinator for Birmingham Friends of the Earth, writes:
"Initiated in 2006, this project has grown beyond all expectations. It is now not only winning awards, but is widely recognised within Birmingham as a leader in community-led action tackling climate change.
We held a conference in 2006, a speaker evening followed. We have created an exhibition that has toured faith centres and community buildings. We have now created an Ambassadors scheme supporting community-led action.
Birmingham Friends of the Earth have been able to do this work through the commitment of volunteers and a recent grant from the Strategic Partnership. We hope this work is benefiting our wider climate campaign and further spreading awareness of environmental issues in the city."
